Companion Animals

The human-animal bond is the special relationship we have with our pets. These pets may be dogs, cats, horses, ferrets or others. Often, we consider pets part of our family. We have so domesticated them that they cannot return to the wild or live without our protection.

Responsible pet ownership begins with people purchasing, training and keeping the right pet. Neutering is a responsibility just as important as nutrition and proper medical care.

Chaining a dog for long periods of time is cruel and potentially dangerous! Dogs, by nature, are pack animals, and need frequent contact with either other dogs or with humans. Long periods of social deprivation almost always results in some form of emotional and/or behavioral problems. Dogs are also by nature, territorial. Chained dogshave limited space, which increases the likelihood of an attack on other animals or even children and adults who invade it. Because dogs attached to chains are unable to flee when frightened or in danger, they have no choice but to react with aggression. Be kind! Build a fence instead. If a fence or leash walking is not an option, install a running line instead and use a harness rather than a collar. This provides the opportunity for regular exercise. Please bring them in as much as possible to interact with you and your family!

Life on a chain...solitary confinement for man's best friend.

Statistics show that chained dogs are nearly 3 times more likely to become aggressive!

One report stated that nearly 80% of fatal dog attacks between 1965 and 2001 were children under the age of 12 because they wandered too close to a chained dog!
