Welcome to the Internet Home of Common Sense for Animals

Common Sense for Animals'
puppy “Sabrina” is a star!

If you are a Super Bowl fan, be sure to tune in during halftime to Animal Planet’s “Puppy Bowl”! You’ll see “Sabrina”, a mix breed puppy from Common Sense for Animals in the game with assorted other rescue puppies!

Sabrina originated from a North Carolina shelter and is part of our Southern Dog Rescue Program. She has since been adopted by a loving family here in New Jersey who love her!

CSA Volunteer Training Session

Anyone 14 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Any volunteers wishing to offer their time after January 29, 2010 will be required to attend a minimum of 1 training session. (We are especially looking for long term volunteers).

Please email ellie@commonsenseforanimals.org

See you then!

Today, January 19, 2010 marks a new beginning for CSA!

As most of you know, our shelter was prohibited from taking in any new animals as of April of 2009 by the State of New Jersey until our renovations were complete and approved. This past Friday evening we were given the "Satisfactory" paper by Warren County, and this morning we have our kennel license in hand! Today is CSA’s new beginning and we are all SO proud!

Step through the shelter renovations and Grand Opening in the video below. Our thanks to K&C Productions for their continued support of Common Sense for Animals!

Sign-ups for 2010 puppy/dog foster homes being taken now!

The CSA shelter renovations are nearly complete, and we are hopeful that we will be back in full operation soon. With this comes a desperate need for temporary foster homes for pregnant dogs and puppies too young to be adopted out, and also, (2 week) fosters for new arrival puppies who need a short stay somewhere immediately after arrival from the South, but before being placed in the “for adoption” population. CSA is responsible for any medical care during the foster period. If you think you are able to help, please email sassy@commonsenseforanimals.org  or call 908-859-3060 and give us your full contact information. (Name, phone number, mailing address and email address). We will contact you and ask questions such as how many puppies would you be willing to foster at one time, and then when we are closer to an actual date of need, we will contact you again and make specific plans. Please remember that without CSA, and without your generosity and willingness to help, these innocent puppies and dogs would face certain death in kill shelters for no other reason other than NO ROOM LEFT! Fostering is a highly commendable act of kindness and is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

In a shelter, the search for a home is everything…

This precious baby and many just like him, have been saved by CSA through our Southern Dog Rescue Program. But hundreds aren’t so lucky. For no reason other than overcrowding and irresponsibility, they perish before ever knowing a home, before ever meeting a kind human being. Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005 displaced so many Southern pets in a whirlwind of destruction, CSA has been rescuing Southern puppies and dogs. Having learned that so many shelters there are in such need, we made a committment to help.
Now we are asking for your help…

CSA dogs 1-16-07 1230.jpg Fostering homeless animals is an expression of kindness. It is making a stand for life and against meaningless death. Most importantly, it is what leads to a happy ending for a shelter animal’s story - a home. We are looking for people who are willing to open their hearts and their homes on a temporary basis and care for these beautiful animals until either a spot in the shelter opens, or a permanent home has been found. If you, or someone you know is interested, please call 908-859-3060 and we’ll give you all of the details on how YOU can help us to make a difference. You’ll be glad that you did!

Hi my name is Heather W. I adopted "Cupcake" who is now named Dakota. I just wanted to say thank you to you staff and the foster mom. She is a wonderful addition to our family and we love her very much. She is very spoiled. She has my full attention during the day and my husband and kids all evening. I just wanted to take the time to say thank you for helping me find this great dog. She is doing very well with us and I know she will be happy for life. I again just wanted to thank your staff. This is the third pet we have gotten from you and have been very happy with. I really appreciate what all of you do. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Heather W.

Hi Ellie,

Just wanted to let you know that Black Beauty is doing wonderfully here at our home. I kept her confined all of yesterday afternoon/evening but she was ready to explore today and has made friends with my other cats.  Here are a few pictures of her from today.
